Web Contact Manager  v1.5.0
Web Contact Manager

Introduction

This program is designed to be a Web Contact Manager (WCM). It originated as a tool providing a secure web interface to a list high school graduates, in preparation for the 35th year class reunion. This program was used as one of the tools for tracking down those long lost friends and colleagues. It has a host of handy features, some of which are described below.

Keep track of friends, family, and business acquaintances with this web tool. With it, you can maintain a "Contact" management database. For each person in the db, you can enter various information about them with detail very similar to what you would find in Microsoft Outlook™. In fact, there are some import and export wizards and instructions to help move data from one of these locations to the other.

Going a few steps beyond, this information is available on the web, and you can control who has access to it, so a controlled group of people can both access and maintain this information.

Security is very important with a system of this type, so there are various permissions levels from the super user down to the basic "read-only" user, and of course the category of "no access". Perhaps suitable for intranet access, a special guest mode may be enabled which allows read-only access to nearly everything by anyone. Typical of a web accessible database, and to minimize the possible attack surface, all parameters passed into the system are processed and scripting threats are removed.

Being a web db, there are a few additional features that come in quite handy - mapping engine integration, so you can translate the addresses into geo-referenced data, and see the location in one of several common map engines. For the extreme, it can create a KML file suitable for Google Earth.

There is also an optional notification mechanism, so you can get an email alert to upcoming birthdays and anniversaries.

Another useful feature, when you've collected pictures of your contacts, is the photo album feature. There are several options for creating a web photo-book or photo slide show, and then several more options for creating downloadable PDFs - including one for creating name badges.

Not lastly, there is a research component, which is commonly used when you have a little bit of information on a contact, but have lost track of their current address. This interfaces to many common people search applications.
